What's your opinion on religious people?
Anonymous

Warning: I’m a terrible speaker, I have zero experience in explaining things so I won’t be surprised if I twist something the wrong way, English isn’t my first language. So I deeply apologize if something is unclear or my phrasing is wrong.

I’ll start by saying that I can’t answer your question 100% because the only religious people I had the pleasure/displeasure of meeting were people linked to Christianity and some of it’s branches. So I can only give you my opinion on those people not every single religious person there is because I don’t have any basis for forming an opinion like that.

The things is I have different opinions on religion itself and religious people. Being an atheist I’m often accused for antagonizing religion and believe me that’s not the case. In general, to me, religion being something created by the human brain isn’t a bad thing in itself. Ever since man developed abstract thinking he became curious about the world and it’s mechanics. He started knowing almost nothing about the world he lived in so it was natural for man to fill in the gaps with this amazing thing called imagination. It’s not all only about ‘explaining the unexplainable with myths of gods, goddesses and heroes’. There was always this need for some kind of ‘spirituality’, the inner need to express how man feels about the world (be it admiration or bitterness towards it) and where he believes his place is. Religion worked well to complete mans life, to give him comfort and ease his mind and give him time to think and learn and gain experience to better understand the world and it’s natural laws. It also was a contributing factor in forming and enriching all of the various cultures around the world and their customs, arts, stories, values and all the sociological aspects of people living in communities… and stuff I guess… I’m a big mythology fan and I love learning about the tales and colorful mythological characters from various religions and guess what? If it weren’t for the beliefs of those people we wouldn’t have so many inspiring things that contribute to our global human culture. So I’m not here to say “We don’t need no religion!”. Apparently some people do need it and it’s been around in various forms for a good couple of thousand years and it hasn’t died out so that means people still need it and it’s not a bad thing. The bad thing is when they use it to oppress, force their world views, spread ignorance, cause pain and suffering just because others dare to live their life differently! I believe that religion should complete ones life not dictate it.

The problem I have (if I do have any, it’s always an individual thing) with religious people is that… they’re people. There are dumb assholes out there but also many wonderful and amazing people and they just happen to share the same religion. Many of my close friends are religious and look, we’re still friends! Just because someone is religious doesn’t mean I don’t want anything to do with them! It’s all about mutual respect, tolerance and a bit of understanding. We need to accept and embrace the fact that we’re all different and as much as we’d like the world to fit our standards… it won’t. But it doesn’t mean we should be jumping to each others throats because of religion or the lack of it.

One time at work my colleague ask me if I went to church the previous Sunday. I answered that no I wasn’t and that I don’t go to church at all, I also explained that I’m not a religious person. She then proceeded telling me how my life has no real meaning, that I’m a soulless machine with no values and so on. That’s the problem, non religious people are sometimes treated like they’re NOT people. Just because I don’t pray, don’t go to church and don’t accept some sort of deity that’s above me as my lord and savior doesn’t mean I’m not capable of the same things as she is! We’re all Homo sapiens, our brains are capable of exactly the same things. I can appreciate life, I try to be a good person, I value kindness, I avoid hurting people, I find beauty in nature and it’s laws and I’m in awe of the universe we live in and how we’re all related to it(also literally, on an atomic level tho)! If a religious person will try to tell me: “Oh, but you’re just praising -insert god name here-! You just don’t know it yet and call it nature instead! vuv” I’m not going to waste my time with them. It’s the most ignorant and rude thing they can do. Don’t put your filthy ignorant words in my mouth just because it suits your world view. It’s like over interpreting a piece of art even though the artist says there’s no more meaning to it that he says there is! In my view religion should be something personal not something you should rub on others when they clearly don’t want it. It only shows how immature and blind the person is.

I hope this answers your question, dear Anon. It wasn’t my intention to insult anyone and if anyone feels offended then I guess you don’t know what the word ‘opinion’ means. I don’t think I’m better than anyone else. I don’t want to convince anyone that my views are the one and only true ones and I’m aware that a lot of people don’t think like that but I’m not going to argue with anyone nor engage in a discussion because it will always be a Sisyphean task. If it were that easy we’d find a solution long ago!

Locust, Magnolia and Azalea :3

I loved my first biology book for kids! I can’t tell you the title and author but it was an old book from the 70s or 80s XD and it had amazing illustrations! *u*

Magnolia: Favorite kind of candy?

Chocolate in most of it’s forms :o But I guess the thing I loved since I was like 6 or 7

Azalea: What’s a movie you cried while watching?

I guesssss the first movie that made me tear up (I haven’t actually CRIED during a movie ever XD) was “Grave of the Fireflies”.

Hibiscus + Daffodil!

Hibiscus: Did you ever play an instrument? If so what?

I never mastered any instrument but I know the basics of the flute and ocarina >v>

Daffodil: What’s the most thoughtful present you’ve ever received?

A whole bunch of cat things for my 18th birthday! I swear, I got like over a dozen of cat things that year 8’D

Primrose and heliconia! c:
Anonymous

Primrose: Favorite kind of soup?

Tomato soup and pickle soup(yes, that’s a thing here)! *u*

Heliconia: Do you like when it rains?

Yes and no. I like spring showers and enjoy having walks when it drizzles but when it’s rainy-all-day-weather I usually suffer from headaches T-T

Rhododendron & Violet

Rhododendron: What’s the scariest dream you’ve ever had?

I had a dream that I was on an airplane and this little boy comes up to me and says that the plane will crash and we’ll all die, then I’ll be reborn and live my life all over again up to this point and then the cycle will repeat. He said he tried changing the course of these events but he failed. I woke up shaking and it took me a while to calm myself down and realize it was only a dream >.>

Violet: Do you like where you’re from?

Believe it or not but I do! I’m proud of who I am and where I come from and while some want to flee as far away as possible from here I’m staying for as long as I can vuv
